Once you have decided to go vintage, what are your next steps?

1. Stay true to yourself

Maybe you want to combine authentic vintage clothing with your everyday clothing style. For that it is useful to know what your body shape is like; what works well for you and your body? This allows you to look much more specifically for vintage clothing that you combine with your current clothing style.

It is very important to stay true to yourself! I strongly discourage you to go along with trends that do not make you feel good or comfortable. Go for things you like to wear yourself.

Where do you start? What should you buy? Slowly build up a collection of vintage clothing. Think of a vintage denim blouse or shirt, printed silk T-shirts, leather pencil skirt, beautifully worn leather jacket, cool vintage T-shirt or a beautiful floral dress. Wear a piece of clothing from the 1920's that you know will look good on you. If you have short legs and a long upper body, wear for example pants with a high waist so that your legs get extra length. Do you have a narrow waist? Then choose clothing items that emphasize your waist.

2. Get inspired

Many modern designers and influencers online use vintage elements in their clothing style. If you are struggling with where to start, look up some trends and people on the internet. You can also keep up to date with the latest trends through magazines and fashion websites or even Pinterest.

4. Be brave and leave your comfort zone

If you think you are now ready to take on the idea of vintage clothing, go for it!

Find something that is unique and that reflects your personality. Whatever your lifestyle, chances are there is a vintage look for you.

Search online for inspiration on Pinterest or Instagram. If you find something that immediately catches your eye and you see yourself walking in, save it and go out to use the inspiration in the field! Go shopping online or go visit vintage physical shops.

There is no right or wrong way to wear vintage clothing, every vintage fashion statement returns once in a while!

5. Be confident!

Make sure to style your vintage clothes with confidence and pride! Be proud that you have chosen to wear unique and different clothes as opposed to what everyone else is wearing, you left your comfort zone and made a great start in expressing your individual style.

Feel good about your choice and be happy with your clothing style. I dare to bet that you will get admiration and compliments when you wear vintage clothing with confidence!
